Weekly Wows #15

I’d been letting my walks be my source of wows, and this past week, I changed that by giving myself a wow nudge. Here are some of the wows I intentionally put into my life.

I went to Cheese Church. A local cheese shop was hosting an event with Erika Kubuck, author of Cheese Sex Death: A Bible for the Cheese Obsessed. My sister got us tickets, and I tasted cheeses I’d never had before, like trillium, goat cheese rolled in edible flowers, and blue cheese wrapped in whiskey-soaked leaves.

I danced to the Lt. Dan Band. My city was hosting a family festival at a farm near my home. Gary Sinise’s band played for a couple of hours. I walked over, stood in the crowd, and enjoyed the music.

I attended an author event. Kate DiCamillo, author of so many great children’s books, including Because of Winn-Dixie and The Tale of Despereaux, was being honored by the Nashville Public Library. Kate was being interviewed by her friend Ann Patchett. I admire both women so much and grabbed a ticket to experience their conversation and fun banter.

I hung out in the pits. My sister’s boyfriend, John Nix, is an announcer for the Nashville Speedway. Over the weekend, the track hosted the American 400, and my sister and I spent the day in the pits. It was fun to be up close to the action. The cars are fast. So fast. And one driver was 14! The race had a 10-car accident, a wow that fortunately had no injuries.

I was surprised by my friends. My microwave died about two months ago. I ordered a new one to fit in the space, and it’s been sitting on my kitchen floor for over a month. I had dinner with my dear friend Debbie on Monday, and she asked about the box in my kitchen. On Tuesday, she texted and said she and her husband, Dave, were coming over to put in my microwave. It took less than 20 minutes, and now I can microwave!! Their kindness made me feel very loved.
