Weekly Wows #12

Happy Friday the 13th! I hope it’s lucky for you. It’s finally starting to feel like Fall here in Tennessee, and the change in seasons seems to bring opportunities for new experiences and wow moments. Here are some of mine for this past week.

I enjoyed a homemade cappuccino. I treated myself to an espresso maker earlier this year. I love it, although I’m still in learning mode. I decided to buy a separate milk frother, too, and that was a game changer. I am enjoying an oat milk cappuccino as a late-morning pick-me-up.

I went on a Halloween walk in my city. I joined a Meetup hiking group a while ago and finally took my first walk. It was through my city, and I had a great time. I went alone and met new people. One person shared the name of a couple of other fun groups, so I’ve joined those, too.

I had a fun memory. On the walk, we went by a house that goes all out for the holidays. The homeowner decorates for every occasion, but her Halloween décor is fantastic. She’s even turned her garage into a haunted house you can tour. I remember taking our kids trick-or-treating here when they were young. It gave me a nice trip down memory lane.

My article was the Editor’s Pick. One of my goals for this year is to write for new publications. I just published a piece on Next Avenue about getting a tattoo with my sons and daughter-in-law. Not only was the story fun to write, but it was the Editor’s Pick for the site that day. I’m proud of the article and, primarily, for going after my goals.

I witnessed a beautiful funeral. This weekend, I had an appointment at a building across from a church. When I arrived, a funeral was letting out, and hundreds of people were on the sidewalks. Most men wore cowboy hats, boots, and bolo ties. I discovered the person who had passed away was just 37, and his obituary says he never met a stranger. Seeing how much this person was loved and respected made me stop and think how I am showing up for my family and friends. I also said a prayer for his widow.

I saw another artist. I was out on a walk when I saw another artist standing on a street corner with an easel, canvas, and paints. When I first passed him, the canvas had blobs of dark green. However, a building magically emerged from the scene when I passed him again on my way home about a half an hour later. I stopped to talk to him, and he showed me a painting of another building he had done in Nashville the day before. I’m amazed at people with such talent. I also love that they aren’t afraid to put up an easel on a busy corner and create.

What were your wow moments from this week?
